KANSAS CITY (Feb. 5, 2025) — The competition court inside of the Swinney Center will have a new name moving forward as the Roos have officially announced the naming of the Buchbinder Family Court in honor of Herb and Bonnie Buchbinder. The Buchbinders have been long-time fans and donors of the Roos; Herb was a member of the 2015 Kansas City Athletics Hall of Fame Class and the couple helped fund renovations for the KC Men's Basketball Locker Room, now known as the Buchbinder Family Locker Room.
"Bonnie and I are delighted to continue our support of KC Athletics and Men's Basketball," Herb Buchbinder said. "We have been long-time supporters of the Roos and having our family name further symbolizes our belief in the Rise of the Roos. We look forward to supporting Dr. Martin, the coaching staff and our student-athletes in the years to come"
"We are grateful for Bonnie and Herb's support of our quest for intentional excellence," Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics Dr. Brandon Martin said. "For years, they have been extremely generous to our Athletics Department and have provided unwavering support to our student-athletes. We are both proud and thankful to have the Buchbinder name represented in our most coveted competition venue."
The Buchbinder family are a staple at Kansas City Athletics events and have been lasting supporters of the Roos' efforts to stand apart as Kansas City's College Team. In addition to their support in playing competition and their aid in the men's basketball locker room renovations, the family has provided in the past for the construction and renovation of women's basketball and volleyball locker rooms, practice gym renovation and other support in the department's general expenses.
The naming rights for the Buchbinder Family Court at the Swinney Center are part of a short-term plan to improve training and competition spaces in the Swinney Center. They are also a part of a continuous effort to align with the Roos' athletics facilities master plan and the university's strategic priorities.
