Jerome Palm packed the stat line with career-highs in points, rebounds and blocks
KANSAS CITY - Kansas City Men's Basketball (1-9) battled through and through against Weber State (5-5) this evening but came up just short in a 64-60 decision. The Roos were led by Jerome Palm, who finished with a 15-point, 15-rebound double-double and added five blocks, the most by a Kansas City player since Jeff Ngandu on Dec. 29, 2022.Â
Kansas City fell behind in the early going, trailing by seven at the under-eight timeout of the first half. KC forced turnovers and began making shots late in the half, eventually taking the lead on a CJ Evans layup with 2:23 remaining. The Roos went into the break down by a point, but finished the half on a 20-13 run to keep themselves in the game.
Palm took over in the second half, scoring four-straight points early in the frame and tying the game up at 37-37. The Wildcats used a 9-2 run and opened up a 50-42 lead with nine minutes remaining, but the Roos did not back down, responding with an eight-point run of their own to tie the game at 50.Â
Weber State built its lead back up to eight once again with just three minutes left in the game, but the Roos chipped away with free throws from Kasheem Grady II and CJ Evans and finally a second-chace bucket from Palm. After getting a pair of stops on the defensive end, the Roos had chances to tie the game or take the lead with under a minute remaining, but could not take advantage.
Palm's performance was just the third 15-5-5 game by a player in the NCAA this season, joining La Moyne's Shilo Jackson and St. Mary's Andrew McKeever. It was the first 15-point, 15-rebound game by a Kansas City player since Javan White on Nov. 18, 2019. He set career-high marks in points, rebounds and blocks, reaching double-digit scoring for the fourth-straight game.
Evans pitched in with a double-double of his own, going for 15 points and 10 rebounds. It marks the first time that the Roos have had two double-doubles in the same game since Allen David Mukeba and Jamar Brown accomplished the feat against Bowling Green on Dec. 16, 2023. Standing at 5'11, Evans is one of just three players under 6'0 to have a points and rebounds double-double in the NCAA this season, according to Sports Reference.
The Roos are back in action on Saturday, hosting Spurgeon. It is the first time this season that the Roos will have played back-to-back home games.
