SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Summit League has officially announced the 2025-26 Preseason Men's Basketball Polls ahead of the league's media day in Sioux Falls this morning, with Kansas City picked to finish sixth and Jayson Petty earning a Preseason First Team All-League nod. Petty will be representing the Roos alongside Kasheem Grady II and Head Coach Marvin Menzies at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center today.
In the poll voted on by coaches and media members around the league, the Roos garnered 187 total points, finishing ahead of Denver (169), North Dakota (168) and Oral Roberts (165). Kansas City is coming off of a 2024-25 season in which the Roos went 4-12 in league play, taking the No. 8 seed in the conference championship.
Petty enters his junior season as the longest tenured player on Kansas City's roster. The 2023-24 Summit League Freshman of the Year will be looked upon as a team leader for the Roos this season and is one of just 15 players across the league that has played in two-plus seasons for their current school.
One of KC's leading scorers in 2024-25, Petty averaged 11.0 points per game, ranking second on the team. He was also one of the most reliable players on the court, appearing in all 33 games and making 32 starts. He reached double-digit scoring 22 times on the year, ranking seventh in the Summit in free throw makes and 10th in free throw percentage.
The Roos open up the 2025-26 season at home on Nov. 3, hosting Evangel before heading to Southern Illinois for a road game.
