BROOKINGS, SD — Kansas City Softball closes its season with three Roos being named to the Summit League All-Tournament Team for their role in KC's semifinal run. Sydney Nichols and Camryn Stickel earn their first-career All-Tournament spot, while Lexy Smith brings home repeat honors after being the sole Roo named to the team last season. The Roos tied their best Summit League Championship performance since 2021, advancing to the semifinal round.
Nichols was a leader for the team, commanding the infield from shortstop. She notched a perfect fielding percentage across Kansas City's four games, earning 15 putouts and a team-high five assists. She hit .308 in the tournament with four hits and two RBIs. She earned hits in three of Kansas City's four appearances with two hits and two RBIs in the 7-3 win over South Dakota.
Stickel led the Roos in the circle for three of their four matchups, including the 14-inning game against Omaha. Between the 5th and 12th innings, Stickel went 21 up, 21 down for a 'perfect game' in the matchup. She held batters to a .204 average in the tournament and earned a 1.33 ERA. She threw three complete games coming to 26.1 innings total for the tournament. Across the three games she earned 13 strikeouts and as of yesterday she ranked third in the nation for innings pitched this season with 213.1 and tied for fifth in appearances with 42.
Smith is the first Roo to receive back-to-back All-Tournament honors since Megan Ussary notched spots on the 2011 and 2012 teams. She earned five hits across four games with a double against NDSU. Throughout the tournament, she scored three runs for the Roos and was the only Kansas City player to earn multiple hits in the 14-inning matchup against Omaha.
