Kansas City knocked down a season-high six triples in the effort against Idaho State
KANSAS CITY - Kansas City Women's Basketball (3-7) fell behind early and could not mount a comeback against Idaho State (5-5) this evening, falling 67-50. The Roos trailed by double-digits for most of the first half but chipped away and cut the deficit to two before the Bengals closed the game on a 19-4 run.
Emani Bennett provided offensive firepower for the Roos, scoring a season-high 23 points to go along with three rebounds. Alayna Contreras joined her in double-digits with 12 points.
KEY MOMENTS
- 1Q - 6:24 / 4-7 | Em. Bennett got the Roos their first field goal of the day, faking a shot and using a dribble drive to get herself a pull-up jumper in the lane.
- 1Q - 0:00 / 8-18 | Idaho State built up a 12-point lead late in the first but on the last possession of the quarter, Contreras gave the Roos a spark. She used a screen from Tamia Ugass to open herself up and nailed the baseline jumper at the buzzer.
- 2Q - 5:05 / 18-24 | The Bengals scored the first five points of the second quarter, but the Roos responded with a 10-1 run of their own, capped when Lisa Thomas found Contreras for a triple.
- 3Q - 9:32 / 27-33 | After sitting on the bench due to foul trouble for most of the first half, Ana Oliveira Dias opened the second half by knocking down a triple on an assist from Contreras.
- 3Q - 4:28 / 34-44 | With time winding down on the shot clock, Emani Bennet tracked down a loose ball, stopped and popped from three and drained the shot to bring KC back within 10.
- 4Q - 9:27 / 44-48 | Elauni Bennett pulled down and offensive rebound early in the fourth and gave the Roos another chance, leading to a mid-range jumper from Em. Bennett to bring KC within four points for the first time since the first quarter.
- 4Q - 1:34 / 49-59 | Zaire Harrell finds Oliveira Dias to stop an 11-point Bengal run, but the damage was done and Idaho State took the win.
