Kansas City Breaks Skid With Dominant Win Over UT Dallas

Five double digit scorers pave way for the Roos victory
KANSAS CITY - After returning home, Kansas City (3-5) got back in the win column with a dominant 94-60 win over UT Dallas (4-5) on Saturday afternoon. The Roos played balanced basketball across all four quarters, scoring 20 or more points in each quarter of the contest. KC's commanding victory was heralded by a 21-7 first quarter in which the Temoc's shot 27% from the field.
The Roos saw five players, including three starters, score 10-plus points, highlighted by Emani Bennett's 15 points and seven rebounds. Chloe Dallas finished with 14 points, the second highest mark on the team to go along with four rebounds and shot 5-7 from the floor. Ana Oliveira Dias and Elauni Bennett chipped 12 and 10 points respectively off the bench to lead the Roos with 49 bench points as a team. Kansas City shot 51% from the field for the game and over 50% in three of the four quarters with a 62% shooting quarter in the second frame.
KEY MOMENTS
- 1Q - 2:48 / 16-7 | Part of the Roos early offensive attack was a steady dose of jump shots as Em. Bennett got herself free on the inbounds play and nailed a long two-point jump shot with her foot on the three-point line.
- 2Q - 5:24 / 36-10 | KC continued to churn out production on offense as El. Bennett charged down the lane to draw a crowd of defenders and dropped a slick pass down to a waiting Zanaa Cordis who went up for the layup.
- 2Q - 1:31 / 44-19 | As time ticked under 10 on the shot clock, Alyssa Febres went to work by taking her defender into the paint, turning to her right hand and floating up a runner that kissed off the glass and dropped through the net.
- 3Q - 1:03 / 66-33 | The Roos put the pedal to the medal in the second half as Dallas showed off her post skills, backing down her man and rising up for a tough layup over the outstretched arms of the defender to double up the score on UT Dallas.
- 4Q - 7:24 / 77-43 | Following a miss on one end, the Roos got to running on the fast break on the other and took advantage of their numbers with Lisa Thomas speeding down the lane and finding Alayna Contreras for an open left wing triple.
STATS TO NOTE
- For the first time this season, the Roos saw five players reach double figure scoring afternoons. Kansas City's previous season best came in the season opener against Utah State where four Roos totaled 10 points or more.
- The Roos move to 3-0 this season when the team shoots over 50% from the field for the game and 9-2 in the Jackson-Durrett era.
- Em. Bennett scored a game-high 15 points, extending her double figure scoring streak to six games. The Lee Summit, Mo. native has scored in double figures in seven of eight games this season.
