Kansas City and SDSU matchup on Thursday, then the Roos face the Coyotes on the road
Starting Five
- In a rematch of the Summit League Conference Championship Semi-Finals, the Roos notched their first conference win of the season against Omaha. The victory came from an all-around team effort, with four players in the double-digits. Dominique Phillips was an offensive force for the Roos in the matchup earning 23 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
- As a team, the Roos documented 23 assists in the win over Omaha with Alyana Contreras leading the charge with eight. Twenty-three assists is the most the Roos have documented against any Divison One opponent this year and one of just three occasions in which the Roos have reached 20 or more assists.
- Kansas City's adjustment to the starting lineup was its tenth consecutive game with a new lineup. Across the 20 games so far this season, the Roos have tested 13 unique starting lineups. Nariyah Simmons is the only Roo to start in all 20 matchups — she and Emani Bennett are the two lone Roos to make an appearance in every game.
- Along with a season-high in assists against D1 opponents, the Roos documented a season-high 15 steals. The only game in which the Roos have earned more assists or steals was against Kansas Christian on Dec. 18 when the Roos won by a near 90-point margin, 121-37.
- In the victory over Omaha, the Roos also documented their third consecutive game with four players reaching double-digits. Of those three matchups Contreras, Simmons and Tamia Ugass have earned double-digits in each game.
SDSU Notes
- The Jackrabbits will look to bump their winning streak to eight games while maintaining their 14-game winning streak over the Roos. The last Kansas City victory over the Jackrabbits came on Jan. 11, 2010.
- South Dakota State currently leads the Summit League with a perfect 5-0 conference record. The Jackrabbits come off a hot season last year in which they appeared advanced to the second round over the NCAA tournament following a win at the Summit League Championship.
- The Jackrabbits are led by Brooklyn Meyer and Paige Meyer who average 14.9 and 15 points per game respectively. Between the two, they have been honored a combined three times as the Summit League Ticket Smarter Player of the Week.
USD Notes
- Before facing the Roos, the Coyotes matchup with Denver on Thursday evening. Their two games this week will give South Dakota a chance to improve to a winning conference record. They go into the week 2-3 so far in conference Play.
- The Coyotes have four consistent starters including Grace Larkins, Kendall Holmes, Walker Demers and Nicole Avila-Ambrosi. Of those four, Larkins, Holmes and Avila-Ambrosi have started in all 20 of South Dakota's games this season.
- Currently, the Coyotes rank just above the Roos in the Summit League, coming in at sixth place. The matchup marks an opportunity for Kansas City to win their first away game in Vermillion in program history. The Roos go into the matchup 0-4 when facing South Dakota at home.
