The Roos were selected to finish fourth in the Summit League Preseason Poll
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Summit League officially announced its preseason tennis polls this afternoon, with Kansas City Women's Tennis earning a fourth-place designation, behind Denver, North Dakota and South Dakota. This comes after last year's second-place finish in both the regular season and Summit League Championships.
"We are looking forward to another great year," Head Coach Kendell Hale said. "Our Roos were chosen fourth last year in the preseason and made it to the Championship., We're hoping to do the same again this year, with a different outcome."
Additionally, the League announced 'Athletes to Watch,' with junior transfer Laura Munoz-Baroja making the cut. Muñoz-Baroja spent the first two years of her collegiate career at the University of Texas at San Antonio, appearing in 25 singles matches. Prior to college, she was ranked as high as No. 84 nationally in Spain.
Muñoz-Baroja joins an experienced Roo roster, boasting one fifth-year and two seniors.
"We're excited to add some new Roos to the mix in Joanna Cardona and Laura Munoz-Baroja," Hale said. "We also have some great leadership with super senior Grace Ball and seniors Michela Xibilia and Riddhi Sharma."
The Roos begin their spring schedule in Little Rock, Ark. in under two weeks, taking on Arkansas on Jan. 22 and Central Arkansas on Jan. 23. Kansas City will host Bradley, Cincinnati, Wichita State and Saint Louis as non-conference opponents. Summit League play will open against Omaha in Kansas City on Mar. 5.
