The Roos will begin the season with three games against Power Five opponents
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Men's Basketball has officially announced its non-conference schedule for the 2021-22 season. The Roos will open the year on the road against three Power Five opponents and will host four games at the Swinney Center.
Kansas City will open its season on Nov. 9 at Minnesota, where the Roos traveled to for a game during December of last year. The Gophers come off a 14-15 season and are led by first-year head coach Ben Johnson.
The Roos will then travel to Iowa for a game on Nov. 12, the first time that the Roos and Hawkeyes have faced off during Head Coach Billy Donlon's tenure. Kansas City last faced the Hawkeyes during the 2018-19 season in the 2K Classic. Iowa comes off a 22-9 season in which it qualified for the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
KC finishes off its season-opening road trip in-state, matching up with Missouri on Nov. 15. The Roos won the last meeting between the two squads, a 69-61 victory during the 2014-15 season.
The Roos host Kansas Christian College in their home opener on Nov. 17, a rematch of last year's double-header in which KC won both games.
Kansas City then takes to the road again for three-straight games, beginning with a trip to Idaho State on Nov. 22. The Bengals are coming off of a 13-11 campaign in 2020-21, the team's first winning season since 2015-16.
The Roos will then travel to Jonesboro, Ark. on Nov. 27 & 28 for back-to-back games against Morehead State and Arkansas State. Morehead State qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season, winning the Ohio Valley Conference for the first time in 10 years. It will be the first meeting between KC and Arkansas State since 2002.
Kansas City will then host a game on Dec. 4, welcoming cross-town opponent Calvary University to the Swinney Center.
The Roos remain at home on Dec. 10 for a matchup against Green Bay. It will be the Roos' first meeting with the Phoenix since the opening round of the 2017 College Basketball Invitational, which Kansas City won, 92-82. The all-time series between the two teams is split, 3-3.
KC will take to the road one last time on Dec. 12, taking on SIUE in Edwardsville. It will be just the fourth meeting between the Roos and Cougars in program history, with Kansas City holding a current two-game win streak.
One final non-conference game will be hosted in the Swinney Center on Jan. 11, as the Roos welcome Baptist Bible College for a meeting at 7 p.m.
