Kansas City, MO. The Kansas City Roos edge past North Dakota in an exhilarating and decisive singles match win gaining the 4-3 victory. After battling in competitive doubles action earning the first point, the Roos would see challenging rallies and tough placements throughout singles play making each set count. The Roos kept a strong mentality and adjusted to the Eagles pressure finishing with a tremendous win.
The pairing of Junior Michela Xibilia and Senior Yana Grechkina proved powerful in doubles as they communicated and supported the other well through dynamic plays at the net winning 6-3. The duo of Senior Grace Ball and Junior Riddhi Sharma rallied through fast returns and took charge on the court ending in the win column 7-5.
After the Roos earned the doubles point they continued to display tactful decision-making and solid endurance through the battles of singles play. Senior Thanushree Vale muscled through and dominated early winning both her sets 6-2 and 6-2. Freshman Anastassiya Timofeyeva served with finesse and defeated her opponent in both sets 6-0 and 6-2.
"I'm super proud of the girls today! It was not our best tennis but they had the 'find a way attitude'!
Finding a way to put the Roos on top came down to Riddhi Sharma's three set thriller. Battling through long rallies, Sharma outlasted with great placements in the first set winning 7-5. During the second set the Eagles returned the pressure forcing Sharma into third set action. Sharma turned the intensity dial up as she made powerful serves and strong line returns adjusting to the Eagles attack. Coming down to her serve, Sharma stayed focused and rallied to a sensational ending point putting the Roos in the victory column.
"This was big for our team, we have been on the other side of these 4-3 matches at the beginning of the season so I'm glad we have been on the winning side for the last couple," commenting Head Coach Kendell Hale on the significance of the victory.
The Roos improve their conference record 3-1. Â Kansas City will next face Wichita State in a 9am matinee this Wednesday, April 7th. For more information on Kansas City Tennis, follow on social media @kcroostennis.
