Michela Xibilia picked up a point at the No. 5 singles spot, battling from behind for a three-set win
DENVER, Colo. - Kansas City Tennis matched up with Summit League preseason favorite Denver this afternoon, falling 6-1 to the Pioneers.
"It was a tough match today, we really had to battle the altitude and ourselves a lot," Head Coach Kendell Hale said. "(Michela Xibilia) continues to bring it every match, and (Thanushree Vale) continues to play well. We have some areas to work on before we meet them again."
The Pioneers took the doubles point by winning at the No. 2 and No. 3 spot, but Xibilia and Yana Grechkina put up a fight in the one-spot. The match sat at 5-4 in favor of the Pioneers when Denver clinched the point and the set was left unfinished.
Xibilia was the lone Roo to win her singles match, making an incredible comeback to win in three sets. After dropping the first set 6-0, Xibilia faced a 4-1 deficit in the second set before mounting a come-from-behind win. She battled back to win the second set 7-5 and breezed through the third set 6-2. Vale also pushed her match to three sets, winning the second set 6-4 after losing the first 6-1. She was unable to grab the point however, falling 6-3 in the third.
The Roos continue Summit League play next Saturday, hosting North Dakota for a match at 2 p.m.
