Roos' Season Ends in Penalty Shootout

Kansas City played Denver to a 0-0 tie through 110 minutes, but the Pios took the advantage in PKs
MACOMB, Ill. - After 220 consecutive minutes of tied soccer between Denver and Kansas City Men's Soccer, a winner was finally declared via penalty shootout in the Summit League Semifinals, with Denver advancing 0-0 (4-3 PKs). Cooper Clark posted his third clean sheet of the season, making five saves on the day.
KEY MOMENTS
- 10' / 0-0 | After battles in the midfield for the first 10 minutes, Kazuki Kimura made the Roos' first run of the game, but could not connect with anyone on a crossing attempt.
- 34' / 0-0 | After a Denver shot was blocked by the Roos' back line, the counter attack generated an opportunity for Cesar Mont Soler, whose shot was saved by a Pioneer defender.
- 36' / 0-0 | Clark was called on to make his first save of the day, corralling a shot on by the Pioneers.
- 52' / 0-0 | Denver looked to create a scoring opportunity early in the second half, but a rolling shot was scooped off the ground by Clark.
- 61' / 0-0 | The Pioneers created another chance in the box, but a sliding stop was made by Kotaro Hirokawa to keep the match level.

STATS TO NOTE
- This match marked the first time Kansas City participated in a postseason penalty shootout since the 2010 Summit League Semifinals.
- The Roos took six shots on the day, three of which were let loose by Kimura.
- Clark, Nevshemal, Hirokawa, Castells, Carson Lindsey, Seth Kacich and Kyle Reese all played the full 110 minutes. Kimura and Edson Murguia each played 109.
- The Roos finish the season with five draws, the most in a single season in program history.

The Roos' year comes to a close with a 3-7-5 record in Ryan Pore's second season at the helm. Four of the Roos' seven losses came to nationally ranked opponents, and two of their wins came by way of shutout. Kansas City will have 25 student-athletes eligible to return next season, including all 11 starters from today's match.
