KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Following a 3-0 sweep of Oral Roberts last week, Kansas City Athletics has announced Bree Thompson and Carly Gillen as the TicketSmarter Roo Players of the Week for the Week of Oct. 11.
Bree Thompson
Thompson has made an impact for the Roos since the beginning of conference play, logging double-digit kills in five of the last six matches. Against the Golden Eagles on Saturday, she threw across 13 kills on 35 attacks, notching a .257 hitting percentage. She also earned her first-career start as a Roo, taking advantage of the opportunity.
Carly Gillen
Gillen has shown her value in the middle of the Roos' front line this year, hitting at a .240 clip and averaging 0.77 blocks per set, good for second on the team. Saturday's sweep was no different, as she sent down seven kills on .375 hitting and tied for the team-lead with two total blocks.
The Roos are back in action this week, traveling for matches with Western Illinois, St. Thomas and Omaha.
