Roos Sweep Southeast Missouri State on Day Two

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Kansas City softball won two games out of the three-game series at Southeast Missouri State over the weekend, including a pair of one-run victories in today's matchups. The Redhawks came into today's games red hot, winning nine straight games and holding a 9-1 record.
The Roos proved they can pick up wins in a variety of ways, with the offense exploding in game one and the pitching shining in game two. Three Roos (Delainey Fenoglio, Alexis D'Ambrosio and Katherine Karnatz) led the team in hits with four through the two days, including D'Ambrosio's game winning RBI in the second game today. Packard racked up two wins in the circle on the day. Kansas City moves to 5-8 on the season and will head to Columbia, Mo. on Wednesday for a single-game showdown with the Mizzou Tigers.
Alexis D'Ambrosio, the hero in game number two, put the Roos on the scoreboard first in the top of the second with an RBI double. Kansas City went into the third inning down by seven. In the top of the third, the Roos started to chip away at the deficit. Senior Breanna Hunter sent a three-run bomb to right field, her first home run of the season to bring the Roos to within four, 9-4, going into the fourth.
The game-changing inning for the Roos came in the fourth inning. Trailing 9-4, they were able to tear the cover off the ball, scoring a total of six runs in the inning off of four hits and two walks. Katherine Karnatz (1), Sydney Garcia (1), Chyanne Onstad (1), Delainey Fenoglio (2), and Lia Lombardini (1) picked up RBI's in the inning to bring the Roos even 10-10.
In the top of the sixth inning, after the teams traded a couple more runs, Fenoglio sent a solo shot over the left field wall for her third RBI and hit in the game to give the Roos the eventual game winner.
Kailyn Packard picked up her third win of the season (3-6) coming in to close the game.
Southeast Missouri State came into this three-game series averaging almost nine runs per game through their first nine games. Packard was able to dismantle the Redhawk's hitters, holding them to their lowest run total in a game this season. She had it working all game-long pitching to contact and finished with an impressive final line: 7 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 5 K's.
The Roos knew coming into this game that they would need an ace-performance from whoever pitched in the game. On the opposing side for the Redhawks was Rachel Rook, who entered this game 3-0 and blanked the Roos in game one on Friday. She was in her groove, coming int with two straight complete-game wins under her belt.
In the top of the fourth, Onstad made certain Rook wouldn't blank the Roos again, homering to left field to tie the game up 1-1. Packard and Rook battled, not allowing a run from there on heading into the final inning.
In the top of the seventh, sophomore catcher Alexis D'Ambrosio launched her first home run over the left field wall for what would become the winning run.Packard picks up win number four of the season and now holds a 4-6 record.

After being shutout 3-0 in game number one to the Redhawks on Saturday, the Roos' hitters came back on day two with some fire in their eyes. Kansas City faced its largest deficit of the season after the second inning down by seven, but were able to complete the comeback for a high-scoring 13-12 win.Alexis D'Ambrosio, the hero in game number two, put the Roos on the scoreboard first in the top of the second with an RBI double.
