Roos Earn First Win of Season in Commanding Victory
KANSAS CITY - Kansas City women's tennis picked up its first win of the season on Saturday afternoon in commanding fashion, downing Bradley, 5-2.
"I'm super proud with the ladies and how they played to get their first victory of the season," Head Coach Kendell Hale said.
The Roos started off strong by earning the first point of the day in doubles. Riddhi Sharma and Thanushree Vale paired up for a 6-2 win in the two spot, while Grace Ball and Rhiannon McBlane made easy work at the threes, also winning 6-2.
"We started strong by winning the doubles point," Hale said. We really needed that energy going into singles."
At four singles, Vale continued her hot play, running by the Braves' Victoria Sanchez-Bronzetti, 6-1, 6-4. Ball also won in a quick two sets at five singles, 6-1, 6-2. In her return from injury, Yana Grechkina started slow, but found her groove in the second set, winning 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 at the two spot. At three singles, Sharma earned a three-set grind out victory as well, defeating Natalia Barbery, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.
"Tan (Vale) won her match rather quickly, which kept our energy going. The girls had some big hearts today as Yana, Riddhi and Grace played some amazing tennis. Grace played one of the best matches of her career," Hale said.
The Roos will have the week off before hosting Omaha on Feb.15, as they will try to improve to .500 on the early season.
