"We continue to make progress as a team," said head coach Benaud Shirley. "We had lots of seasons best and personal records. We will build off this weekend and look to continue to improve on our performance going into the conference meet."
For the Roos, it was a meet highlighted by the jumpers. In particular, freshman Brooke Jenkins shined. She posted PR's in both the long jump (5.89m) and the triple jump (11.55m). Her jump of 5.89m in the long jump earned her a third place finish in the Gorilla Classic and now ranks third best in school history. She now owns the second best mark in the long jump in the Western Athletic Conference.Â
"It felt like a long time coming to hit a lifetime best again," said Jenkins. "That performance lit a fire in me and I'm ready for the future."
Sophomore jumper Tamia Emerson also hit her PR in the triple jump (11.55m) for a 13th place finish. That jump ranks tied for second best in the WAC with teammate Brooke Jenkins.Â
On the men's side, junior jumper Shammawi Wellington posted his personal record in the long jump as well. His jump of 7.07m earned him a ninth place finish and ranks sixth best in the conference this season.Â
"It was a good weekend," said Wellington "I'm happy for the indoor long jump PR, but most of all I'm happy to finish injury free."
Freshman jumper Benjamin Owere also hit his personal record in the triple jump (13.86m) for a 15th place finish. That mark ranks fifth best in the WAC this season.
Familiar with being near the top of the standings since joining this Roos this season, Josh Benford came away with a bronze medal in the high jump (2.08m). He has now ranked top-three in four out of five events this season and top-five in all five events he's competed in.Â
Many Roos' athletes had the weekend off, including most of the track athletes, to get prepared and rested for the most important part of the season.

The Western Athletic Conference Indoor Championships is barreling down, just two weeks away. The Roos will have one more tune-up before that, however, in the Nebraska tune-up. This is a one day event and will start on Friday, Feb. 21.Â
