PEORIA, Ill. - The Kansas City Women's Basketball (0-1, 0-0) team could not overcome Bradley's (1-0, 0-0) 28-point third quarter in an 84-70 season opening loss to the Braves.
"We were not the disciplined team we needed to be to beat a very good Bradley team," Head Coach Jacie Hoyt said. "It was a good opening game to show us the things we need to figure out and get better at."
The Roos hung with the Braves through the first 20 minutes, trailing by just three going into the half. Junior transfer Paige Bradford made her presence known immediately, scoring seven of her nine points in the first quarter. Emily Ivory was in true form, finishing the day with 21 points on five-of-eight three-point shooting.
The third quarter proved problematic for Kansas City, as they scored just two points in the first five minutes and found themselves trailing by double-digits going into the media timeout. The Roos and Braves traded punches for the rest of the game, but Kansas City could not make up the lost ground.
RaVon Nero made a good showing in her first game with the Roos, finishing with 14 points and three steals. Naomie Alnatas added nine points and Taylor Larson posted five rebounds and a team-high four assists.
"I think we've got some good pieces to work with, now it's a matter of piecing it together to help us win," Hoyt said.
The Roos will take the holiday weekend off, picking back up against Northwest Missouri State at the Swinney Center on Monday at 6 p.m.
