Dear Roo Community and Fans,
I am pleased to announce our “Roo Promise,” a description of our mission statement, core values, and goals that will serve as the foundation of our vision for a model intercollegiate athletics program. A model athletics program can signify many things, but we will use the “Roo Promise” as a guide to govern our daily decisions, actions, and overall pursuit towards comprehensive excellence.
Mission Statement
The University of Missouri – Kansas City Athletics Department will provide academic, athletic, and personal development opportunities to support student-athletes. We will promote a culture of comprehensive excellence while providing the resources that will enable our student-athletes, coaches, and staff to achieve the highest levels of success. It is our mission to develop the best athletic programs and serve as a great source of pride in representing the UMKC community and Kansas City.
Core Values
- Family
- Integrity
- Inclusion
- Leadership
- Service
Goals
- A world-class student-athlete experience
- Value to the University, Kansas City community, and state
- Ethical, compliance and fiscal integrity
- A rewarding and engaging fan experience
To this end, in the spirit of a university that provides its students with educational opportunities both broad and deep, we are committed to building one of the most impactful NCAA Division I intercollegiate sports programs for men and women in the country. We believe unequivocally, that our athletics programs should represent the same level of excellence and diversity found throughout the university, thereby providing the opportunity and encouragement for each student-athlete to reach his/her fullest intellectual and athletic potential. The common goal amongst our athletic administrators, coaches, and student-athletes is to achieve success at the highest level while abiding by the standards of integrity and ethical conduct.
This is a new era of Roo Athletics. All staff members, coaches, and student-athletes will be committed to bringing the “Roo Promise” to fruition—on campus, with our fans, and in every way that we represent UMKC and the Kansas City community.
Thank you all for being a part of our Roo family!
Go Roos!
Dr. Brandon E. Martin
