KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC Athletics and the UMKC's Division of Student Affairs will partner to offer a dedicated location for Roo students to gather and cheer on the UMKC men's basketball team prior to home games this season. The location, tagged the “House of Bounce”, will be a student lounge free to UMKC students. The concept is part of Director of Athletics Dr. Brandon Martin's 100-day vision to enhance opportunities for student engagement across campus and at athletic events.
“We are excited to welcome our students to the home of Roo basketball” said Director of Athletics Dr. Brandon Martin. “This week is the beginning of something special, a tradition of engagement, excitement and energy at our basketball events. Our students will be difference-makers for our team, and we are looking forward to providing all UMKC's students with a unique and fun experience.”
For the remaining men's games played at Swinney Center, students with a “Pouch Card” can enjoy free pizza, grab a free t-shirt provided by the Union Programming Board, hang out and be a part of a brand-new, exciting student activity aimed at filling the on-campus arena. The Chancellor's Dining Room, inside Pierson Auditorium, will house the first gathering on Jan. 26 from 5 – 6 p.m. as the men's team welcomes Seattle University. Students are asked to head over to Swinney afterwards and enjoy activities at the “Pouch of Ouch,” the official student fan section, when the game begins at 6 p.m.
In order to attend the House of Bounce activities, a UMKC student must pick up a “Pouch Card”. The first opportunity to receive a Pouch Card will be during the Student Involvement Expo on Wednesday, Jan. 23 from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm in the UMKC Student Union on the 3rd Floor. Pouch Cards will also be available at the Office of Student Involvement front desk located in the Student Union Suite 320 and are given out starting Jan. 23 on a first-come/first-served basis.
“Students bring a unique and palpably energy to our games that cannot be replicated by any other group of fans,” said Vice Provost for Student Affairs Sandra Miles. “They are not just cheering on their campus, they are cheering on their friends and classmates at an emotional level. Students are incredibly excited to have their Roos back home and I am looking forward to seeing them dancing and cheering in the “Pouch of Ouch” in high numbers!”
Students that attend the House of Bounce event will earn priority seating at that game in the “Pouch of Ouch” seats. The House of Bounce moves locations for a few dates, to an area directly outside the UMKC Cafeteria. See below for the schedule.
