KANSAS CITY, Mo.-- Emma Dyer, graduating redshirt senior on the volleyball team, has been awarded with one of the most prestigious awards given out to graduating students at UMKC – the Dean of Students' Honor Recipient Award. Dyer was recognized at the annual awards breakfast on Friday, December 14.
This recognition honors the truly unique students who maintain high scholastic performance while actively participating in volunteer service and leadership to the community and the university outside of the classroom.
Dyer has been involved in a wide variety of academic-related organizations and volunteer work for the university. Throughout her undergraduate and graduate years at UMKC, she has been able to maintain a balance of athletic-related and academic-related activities and organizations. These activities and organizations include: the NCAA Division I Volleyball team, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), volunteering at various Kansas City organizations including Morning Glory Café, the YMCA, WIN for KC and the UMKC Residential Life Move-In Day.
Additionally, Dyer is an active volunteer in her home community where she helps in the local 4-H youth program.
Ursula Gurney, Deputy Athletic Director, nominated Dyer for this award. Gurney noted, “Emma's leadership experience and willingness to help others, both in the athletic department and in the community, is something to be celebrated. She is a model student-athlete."
UMKC Athletics is proud of Emma and wish her much success as she begins her career in Accounting.
