
Men's Hoops Travels to No. 7/8 Wichita State, Hosts Haskell to Open Season

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC men's basketball team tips off their 31st season of Division I basketball on the road Friday with a 7 p.m. CT game at No. 7/8 Wichita State, before returning to Municipal Auditorium on Sunday to host Haskell at 4 p.m. CT as part of the Gulf Coast Showcase.

Kareem Richardson's troop features six returning letterwinners and welcomes nine newcomers this season. The Roos will look to the senior leadership of Broderick Robinson (Grand Junction, Colo.), as UMKC lost all five of its starters from 2016-17. Robinson, along with Xavier Bishop (Springfield, Ill.), played in all 35 games for the Roos last season, while Isaiah Ross (Davenport, Iowa) made an appearance in 34 contests. Richardson enters his fifth year at the helm of the Roos program.
In UMKC's lone exhibition game of the season, the Roos downed the Sterling College Warriors, 110-58, at Municipal Auditorium on Nov. 3. Bishop and Marco Smith (Kansas City, Kan.) led the way in scoring with a game-high 16 points apiece, while Robinson dished out a game-high four assists.
Additionally, four Roos – Brandon McKissic (St. Louis, Mo.), Tony Jackson (Montgomery, Ala.), Robert Knar (Mundelein, Ill.) and Steve Dulley (Kansas City, Mo.) – each scored in double figures for UMKC,
