UMKC Returns Home for Battle with Drake

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Coming off a weekend road trip that ended with a late-game goal to beat South Dakota, UMKC women's soccer returns home for a meeting vs. Drake on Wednesday night.
With a 7 p.m. CT kickoff in store, the matchup with the Bulldogs marks the fifth time in the program's history that the two teams have met. The last battle came in 2012.

Tickets for Wednesday's game can be purchased through the UMKC Athletics website at UMKCKangaroos.com/Tickets or at the ticket office at Durwood Stadium on game day, with single-game tickets starting at $5 and season tickets as low as $50, or $100 for four seats.

About the 'Roos
By winning its last matchup against South Dakota, UMKC improved its overall record to 2-5-2 heading into Wednesday night's match with Drake. Freshman GK Erin Roth (Eureka, Mo.) collected the second victory of her collegiate career in the process. She now has seven saves on the season and a 2-0-0 record in goal.
Offensively, UMKC has kept its focus on a team-oriented style of play, which has been reflected in the box scores. Four players have accounted for seven goals, with six separate teammates recording assists.
The scoring is primarily led by sophomore F Kelsey Mothershead (Smithville, Mo.), who collected her team-leading third goal of the season her last time out on the pitch. Sophomore MF/F Reighan Childers (Grain Valley, Mo.) is coming off an exciting performance on Sunday, where she knocked in the game-winning goal against South Dakota in the 82nd minute. Childers also leads the team with 20 shots, nine of which have been on goal.
Chris Cissell is currently in his sixth year at the helm of the 'Roos program. During his tenure at UMKC, Cissell has posted a coaching record of 55-42-15, increasing UMKC's win total in each of the last four seasons. Last year,he guided the 'Roos to a program-best 14-win season.
About the Bulldogs
Drake enters the game against UMKC holding a 7-1-1 record, despite dropping its first game of the season, 3-0, on Sunday against South Dakota State. The Bulldogs have posted seven shutouts on the year, including three in its last four matches.
Drake has five players who have scored two or more goals this season, with senior MF Kayla Armstrong and sophomore MF Alyssa Brand leading the way with three goals each. In front of the net, senior GK Brooke Dennis has posted an undefeated 4-0-0 record, and has shared the goal-stopping responsibilities with Haley Morris, who has suffered just one loss in her junior campaign.

Following the contest with Drake, UMKC will continue its short two-game home stand with a battle vs. Oral Roberts on Sunday. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. CT at Durwood Stadium.
