About the 'Roos
Sitting at 1-3-2 on the season, UMKC notched its first victory of the 2016 campaign, knocking off UT Martin 2-0 in its last matchup. Junior midfielder Sydni Young (O'Fallon, Mo.) and freshman Sammi Arch (Overland Park, Kan.) recorded their first goals of the season, continuing the trend of every goal that UMKC has converted this season being scored by a different player.
Defensively, UMKC has used both sophomore Anna Lillig (Kansas City, Mo.) and freshman Erin Roth (Eureka, Mo.) in goal, where the two keepers have a combined 33 saves this season. In her first-career start, Roth also recorded the first shutout of her career against UT Martin, preventing five goals in the process.
Head coach Chris Cissell is currently in his sixth year at the helm of the 'Roos program. During his tenure at UMKC, Cissell has a posted coaching record of 54-40-15 and has increased UMKC's win total in each of the last four seasons.
About the Jayhawks
Kansas enters the game with an overall record of 4-2-1, winning its last contest 2-1 over Pittsburgh. The Jayhawks are led by sophomore midfielder Grace Hagan and freshman forward Mandi Duggan who have each connected for three goals, accounting for all of the KU's scores this season. Behind the net, goalkeeper Maddie Dobyns has 4-2-1 record, saving a total of 19 goals thus far.
