HOT VILLAGE SPRINGS, Ark. – UMKC women's golf sophomore Cynthia Diaz (Bucaramanga, Colombia) was part of a 3-way tie for the individual champion at the Little Rock Golf Classic and the Roos tied for fourth in the team standings. Diaz finished at 2-over par after shooting a final round 76 (+4).
"We are excited for Cynthia as she collected another collegiate win," head coach Brianna Broderick said. "We wanted this team victory too. This is the second time this season that we have put ourselves in a position to win, and the more comfortable our team feels in that position, the easier it will become.
"We got off to a poor start on the front nine and followed it up with a strong back nine, showing this team's talent and resiliency. We are looking forward to the offseason to fine-tune our games in an effort to get our first win in the spring season."
As a team, UMKC shot a collective 304 (+16) on Tuesday. Mackenzie Black (Independence, Iowa) led the way in the final round by carding a 75 (+3). Chandler Gallagher (Kansas City, Mo.) shot 76 (+4) while Maria Henao (Pereira, Colombia) finished with a 77 (+5). Cyrielle Kern (Cuvry, France) wrapped up the tournament with a 79 (+7).
Central Arkansas won the team title by six strokes. Diaz shared the individual title with Brenda Gonzalez from Central Arkansas and June Ting from UTEP.
The Roos have closed the fall season and will release the spring slate in the coming weeks.
