The Game
The Kansas City women's basketball team (3-17, 1-4) welcomes in Utah Valley (7-13, 1-4) to Kansas City on Saturday for a WAC contest. Tip between the 'Roos and the Wolverines is slated for a 2 p.m. on Jan. 31 at the Swinney Recreation Center.
The Promotion
The 'Roos will host their annual Pink Out game to raise awareness for Breast Cancer with all proceeds benefiting Susan G. Komen of Greater Kansas City. Groups who purchase 10 or more tickets will receive a free UMKC women's autographed basketball.

Last Time Out
Grace Mitchell recorded her third double-double of the season, finishing with team-high's of 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting and 11 rebounds, with Kiana Law also notching her third of the season, tallying 11 points and 10 rebounds as the Kansas City women's basketball team fell 65-59 to Grand Canyon on Thursday night at the Swinney Recreation Center in WAC play. With the loss, UMKC drops to 3-17 overall and 1-4 in WAC play, while the Lopes improve to 8-10 on the season and 2-3 in the conference.
For Mitchell and Law, it was the third time in the last four games that they have grabbed 10+ rebounds and the second time in four games that they both recorded double-doubles in the same game after accomplishing the feat on Jan. 17 at Chicago State.
A third 'Roo, Aries Washington, meanwhile, nearly missed her first career double-double after registering 12 points and a career-high nine of the 'Roos 45 caroms. Officially, UMKC outrebounded the Lopes 45-20, with the +25 margin standing as the highest of the season for the 'Roos.
As a team, UMKC outscored GCU 28-18 in the paint and tied their season-high with 15 assists, while limiting the Lopes to just 38.8 percent shooting from the field. Individually, Waldron was the fourth 'Roos to finish in double figures, notching 11 points, including hitting 3-of-4 from long range, five rebounds and three assists.
The Coaches
Nationally known for her top-notch recruiting classes, Marsha Frese enters her third season as head women's basketball coach at UMKC. Frese brings 16 seasons of experience as a Division-I player and coach to the UMKC campus. During her first two seasons in Kansas City, Frese began to establish her vision for a championship culture while guiding the 'Roos toward excellence, both on the court and in the classroom.
Cathy Nixon recently completed her 19th year as the head coach of Utah Valley women's basketball in 2013-14. During her tenure, Nixon's teams have consistently displayed hard work and character, on and off the court. Last season, Nixon led Utah Valley into its first season as members of the WAC. The Wolverines finished 7-23 overall and were eighth in the WAC behind a 4-12 conference mark.

Last Time Against The Wolverines
The Kansas City women's basketball team) fell 49-43 on Feb. 22 against Utah Valley at the UCCU Center despite Kim Nezianya's 15 double-double of the season.
On the day, Nezianya led the 'Roos in both scoring and rebound, notching 18 points and 14 rebounds, while classmate Eilise O'Connor added 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists. As a team, the 'Roos out-rebounded UVU 42-40 and finished a perfect 6-of-6 from the line, while defensively they limited the conference's leading three-point shooting team to just 14.3 percent in the contest.
10+ Two Straight
In the games at Chicago State and Bakersfield, the 'Roos starting frontcourt of Kiana Law and Grace Mitchell each grabbed 10+ rebounds. Law finished with 13 against the Cougars and 10 versus the Roadrunners, while Mitchell grabbed 10 in each game.
Perfect At The Line
This season, Calli White has finished perfect from the line in 11 games, including one game each finishing 8-of-8, 7-of-7 and 6-of-6. Overall, White is second in the WAC at 85.7 percent mark.
White Lights Up Bakersfield
At Bakersfield, Calli White scorched the nets, going for a career-high and UMKC season-high 27 points. In the game, the sophomore tied her career-high with six made threes on 10 attempts.
Mitchell's Hot Stretch
Grace Mitchell turned up her game over the 'Roos last five WAC games, as the sophomore is averaging 14.0 points and 9.1 rebounds, while shooting 66.7% from the field. During the stretch, she scored a career-high 20, recorded her fourth and fifth career double-doubles and grabbed 10 rebounds in back-to-back games.
Double-Doubles
In the 'Roos game at Chicago State, the starting frontcourt of Kiana Law and Grace Mitchell each tallied double-doubles, marking the first time since Feb. 8, 2014 at Chicago State that two 'Roos notched double-doubles in the same season. Three games later, the duo accomplished the feat again against Grand Canyon. Mitchell now has four for her career and three this season and Law has three on the year. In her career, Taylor Leathers has two double-doubles as well.
Freshmen Contributions
This season, the 'Roos regular rotation has featured six freshmen, with the group averaging 31.0 points (53.7%), 20.1 rebounds (54.3%), 5.1 assists (44.6%), 2.7 steals (54.5%) and 1.9 blocks (70.8%). The players make up four of the top five scorers on the team.
Overall, the 'Roos second in the NCAA in minutes per game per player by freshmen at 50.6% of total minutes, trailing only Clemson.
