The Games
UMKC will face Central Arkansas on Tuesday night at home at 7 p.m., before getting the weekend off. The 'Roos are looking to snap a three-game skid, while UCA is in the same situation after starting the year 2-0.
The Coaches
In his 17th season at UMKC, Rick Benben is the winningest coach in school history, posting a 117-152-34 record. Under his guidance, UMKC has captured four conference regular season titles and has made three appearances in the NCAA College Cup with the most recent appearance coming in 2008. Benben, the fourth head coach in the Division I era, was inducted into the UMKC Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012.
Ross Duncan is in his third season as the head coach at UCA, posting a 14-23-3 overall record. He previously served as an assistant coach there. He helped the Bears to a 4-11-2 overall record last season.
The Series
The 'Roos and Bears are meeting for the ninth time, with UMKC holding a 6-2 series advantage. The last meeting went in favor of the Bears however, taking a 3-0 victory on 9/8/13 in Conway, Ark. Prior to that, UMKC had won the last three meetings, while posting a 4-0 home mark.
The Opponent
The Bears are 2-3 entering the contest, having lost their last three games after starting the year 2-0. They have wins against Incarnate Word and Eastern Illinois.
They are led by Wes Carson with two goals on the season. As a team they are averaging a goal per contest, while allowing 1.4 per game. Goalkeeper Harrison Veith has 18 saves and has played every minute in the net.
A Win Against UCA Means...
- UMKC would remain undefeated at home against the Bears, moving to 5-0.
- The 'Roos would have won for the first time in three games overall.
- Missouri-Kansas City would move its overall record against the Bears to 7-2, and would have won four of the last five meetings.
Up Next
The 'Roos will hit the road for one of its toughest tasks of the season next Tuesday when it heads to No. 3 Creighton for a showdown in Omaha.
The 'Roos and Bluejays are meeting for the 14th time, with Creighton holding a 10-2-1 lead in the series. The 'Roos have lost the last two meetings in the series, last winning in 2008 when the Bluejays were No. 3 in the nation. On the road, UMKC has a 2-7-1 record against CU.
