(Seattle, Wash.) – Junior defender Guerrero Pino and senior midfielder Tayna “Tato” Chiaparro represented UMKC men's soccer with second-team All-WAC accolades, announced Wednesday evening at the pre-tournament banquet in Seattle.
Regular-season champion UNLV led all WAC schools with five players selected to the all-WAC teams, including four on the first team and one on the second team.
UNLV senior forward Salvador Bernal was named the WAC's Offensive Player of the Year, while his teammate, senior defender Kyle Mellies, received Defensive Player of the Year honors. Bakersfield forward Julian Zamora was named the league's Freshman of the Year and UNLV's Rich Ryerson was named Coach of the Year.
Pino (Parral, Mexico) earned his first All-WAC selection this season, even after sitting out the first 10 games of the year after receiving additional eligibility from the NCAA. Chiaparro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) was named second-team for the second straight season by the WAC. He led the 'Roos with five assists this season, while scoring two goals. Eight of his nine points came in WAC play.
