The Kangaroos got off to a slow start on Saturday night and were never able to catch up. IUPUI's first 12 points were all from the three-point line, as the Jaguars got out to a 12-0 lead in the opening five minutes of the first half. By the 13 minute mark, IUPUI held a commanding 16-point lead, 17-1.
Hall-Jones would score six of the `Roos next eight points, putting together an 8-0 run, getting UMKC within seven points, 20-13, with 10 minutes left in the half. But the Jaguars would jump back out to another 13-point lead and UMKC again had to dig its way out of a hole.
The Kangaroos were able to space out their offensive threats with five different players scoring in the final minutes of the half. A LeAndrea Thomas lay-up with 22 seconds left in the first half would send the `Roos into the locker room down by four, 31-27.
IUPUI again jumped out to a 10-point lead, 39-29, in the opening minutes of the second half and the Kangaroos would again play catch-up. Over the next three minutes, Hall-Jones again started an 8-0 run for the `Roos, scoring five of their next eight points, and a pair of Kaycie Boyles free throws would get UMKC to within two, 39-37, with 15:36 left in the game.
That is the closest UMKC would get and IUPUI was again able to jump out ahead by 15 points, 58-43, with 4:49 on the clock.
IUPUI had four players finish in double figures, with Kerah Nelson finishing with 21 points, Gretchen Gaskin with 18, and Jasmine Horne and Janna Eichelberger contributed 11.
UMKC shot dismal from the field .392 (field goal percentage) and .111 (three-point field goal percentage), compared to IUPUI's .509 percent from the field and .539 (7-13) from the three-point line.
The Kangaroos finish up this weekend's trip at Western Illinois on Monday night at 7 p.m.
