
Kangaroos Fall 4-1 in Final Regular Season Game to Thunderbirds

Even with the loss, the Kangaroos (8-7-4, 6-2-1 SL) will head into the Summit League Tournament as the No. 3 seed for the first time in school history.
The Thunderbirds (4-11-3, 2-7 SL), finished the season strong, with two straight wins and 10 goals.
In the first half, Southern Utah got on the board first with a goal by Shelby Ostler during the 23rd minute. Then, in the 41st minute, the Thunderbirds scored again by way of Vanessa Lilli to take a 2-0 lead. Riley Bassett was credited with the assist.
The Thunderbirds continued their first half flurry when it tacked on another score to go up 3-0 during the 44th minute. This time, Amanda Humphreys was credited with the score.
It was the first time the Kangaroos had allowed more than one goal in nine straight games.
Early in the second half, during the 46th minute, the Thunderbirds picked up where they left off when Bassett scored to increase the lead to four. Stacey Brinkman was credited with the assist.
During the 81st minute, UMKC freshman midfielder Allison Schau scored to cut the lead to the three. Freshman defender Kaely Tott was credit with assist and it was the first score for Schau this season.
For the match, SUU out-shot the 'Roos 22-9. UMKC, who had already clinched a spot with a win over ORU on Thursday, played all 18 players, including two goalkeepers in the contest.
Up next for UMKC, it will compete in the Summit League Tournament for the time in school history on Nov. 4 in Rochester, MI. Time to be announced.
