Kansas City, Mo. -- The UMKC women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to Missouri State on Sunday afternoon at Durwood Soccer Stadium and Recreational Field. The Kangaroos fall to 1-8 on the season, while the Bears improve to 6-4-1. In the defeat, Ashley Gann scored her second goal of the season, and Jami Finnell recorded four saves.
The Kangaroos put together a solid first half, taking a 1-0 lead into the locker room. Despite being out-shot in the first half 6-4, UMKC maintained good possession of the ball and got some key looks. A Missouri State foul would give the `Roos a free kick from 25 yards out. Alyssa D'Egidio sent the ball sailing, left-to-right and connected with Gann for a low finish past the Bears goalkeeper in the 38th minute.
Missouri State would tie things up in the 58th minute, after Brooke Williams was able to put a lofty shot past Finnell.
Both teams had some good looks late in regulation but neither could capitalize, sending the match into overtime.
Michelle Sommer ended the `Roos hopes in the 99th minute after receiving the ball inside the 18-yard box from Shelby Stewart.
For UMKC, Taylor Bare and Gann each recorded two shots.
The Kangaroos begin Summit League play on Oct. 1 at Western Illinois.
