'Roos Set School Record, Clinch Spot In Summit League Tourney With Pair Of Wins

Las Vegas, Nev. -- The UMKC women's tennis team (9-12, 5-2) notched a pair of 4-0 wins over Oakland (1-16, 1-6) and IUPUI (5-19, 3-4) to earn its school record ninth win and clinch a spot in The Summit League Tournament. Chelsea Horner and Suzan Lisenby paced the 'Roos on the day, as each notched a pair of singles wins, while Lisenby teamed with Laura Bouet for a pair of doubles wins as well.
Against Oakland, the 'Roos doubles team of Laura Bouet and Lisenby defeated Gabrielle Gogas at No. 2, 10-8 to clinch the doubles point for the 'Roos after Jillian Yakominich and Jessica Ball downed Jackie Dinicu and Caryn Shermetaro, 8-1, at No. 3. At No. 1, Eva Dalvai and Horner were leading the Golden Grizzlies' duo of Karen Karoub and Caitlin Young, 5-4, when the point was clinched.
In singles action, Lisenby downed Gogas at No. 4, 6-0, 7-5, and Horner defeated Dinicu, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3, before Dalvai picked up the squad's third singles win to clinch the match with a 6-4, 6-3, win over Karoub at No. 1.
Bouet and Yakominch, meanwhile, were each leading their match when the 'Roos clinched the point; Bouet at No. 2 over Young, 6-2, 6-4 and Yakominich at No. 5 over Pettey, 3-0, while Holly Davis' match at No. 6 with Shermetaro did not start.
Against IUPUI, Bouet and Lisenby got the squad started with an 8-2 win over Jesika Buys and Bailey Maryfield at No. 2, before Yakominich and Ball clinched the doubles point with an 8-4 victory over Janet Seng and Alisha Cummings at No. 3. At No. 1, Dalvai and Horner were tied with Hunter Bullock and Shelby Hullet, 7-7, when the point was clinched.
For Yakominich, the doubles win was her 11th of the season, giving her the most in a single season in school history.
In singles play against the Jaguars, Bouet extended her school record to 18 wins with a 6-0, 6-0, win over Cummings at No. 2, while Lisenby's 6-0, 6-0 win of the season at No. 4 over Ashley Haskett was her 10th of the season, placing her in a tie for fourth on the list.
Horner notched the 'Roos third singles win, downing Hullet, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3, while Yakominich was leading Seng, 5-1, when the match was suspended. Dalvai's match at No. 1 with Bulloch was at 3-6, 5-1, while Davis' match at No. 6 with Buys did not start.
The 'Roos will be back in action again tomorrow when they close out the regular season with a 10 a.m. match with South Dakota State.
