
'Roos Set To Wrap-up Fall Season With Annual Alumni and Blue & Gold Games

Kansas City, Mo. - The UMKC softball team will wrap-up its fall season this weekend when it hosts a pair of exhibition games at Avila University. On Saturday, the team will welcome back former 'Roos for the annual Alumni game at 1 p.m., while facing-off in an intersquad scrimmage in the Blue & Gold game on Sunday at 11 a.m.
The squad finished the fall season with a 5-1-2 record, picking up wins over area schools Baker, Johnson County CC, Avila, and Kansas City Kansas CC. Overall the 'Roos outscored their opponents 41-17, scoring an average of 5.1 runs a game, while allowing 2.1 runs per contest. On the mound, sophomore Anna Sokolik and freshmen Deanna Friese and Emily Ott all notched wins for the team. Junior Lauren Rodriques finished the fall with two home runs, while freshman Taylor Hill connected on her first career long ball.
Returning to Kansas City for the Alumni game will be a host of former 'Roos, including recent UMKC graduates Amanda Evans (2009), Samantha Hurst (2009), Alicia Baker (2008), and Sierra Hayward (2008). Also returning for the game will be Kylie Williamson (2007), Jaclyn Schuyler (2007), Cori Mead (2007), Taron Brewer (2007), Ashley Toft (2007), Lindsay Taylor, Eryn Knecht (2006), Sarah Allen-Schrum (2006), Kim Hoiting (2006), Casie Wolf-Gorton (2006), Jaime McGrath (2005), and Tisha Abell (2005), as well as former coaches Carla Marchetti and Ken Kessler.
The Alumni game will be held at Avila University, located at 119th and Wornall, starting at 1 p.m. T-shirts will be provided to the returning alumni, while the players are asked to arrive early to warm-up and to please bring gloves, bats, and helmets if possible. No RSVP is necessary, but to please attend if possible.
