Casey Finnell joined the Student-Athlete Support Services Office in January, 2013. She currently serves as an Academic Mentor.
As an academic mentor, she works individually with student-athletes on a weekly basis to provide a variety of educational support to aid student-athletes in achieving their academic, personal, and professional goals. Finnell works to get to know each individual's personal learning style and helps them effectively develop skills to make them successful in their classes. In coordination with learning assistance, she also tracks academic progress and provides student-athletes with weekly skill instruction that works with their individual learning styles.
In addition to her mentoring duties, Finnell works with the Learning Services Coordinator to assist with the tutoring program, academic advising, and enrollment. Finnell reviews, assigns and monitors daily and weekly tutoring appointments. She also assists the proctoring of SASSO's study hall.
From 2007-2012, Finnell served as the Hunter Seat coach for the Kansas State University Equestrian Team. Finnell worked for three years as an assistant under previous Hunter Seat coaches Ashley Duda and Gardner Powell before taking over full responsibility for the Hunter Seat aspect of the program in 2010, working under head coach Casie Maxwell. During her time at Kansas State, Finnell's student-athletes earned multiple Academic Big 12 and Academic National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) honors. Outside of the classroom, Finnell's student-athletes were selected to the NCEA All American Honorable Mention team, All Big 12 team, Big 12 Rider of the Month honors, and NCEA Championship tournament Most Outstanding Player on the Flat award. Finnell was also a 2012 NCEA Coach of the Year nominee.

Finnell received her Master of Science degree in Counseling and Student Development from Kansas State University in 2010. Finnell also completed her undergraduate studies at Kansas State earning Bachelor's degrees in Journalism and Mass Communications and Spanish with a minor in Leadership Studies in 2007. As an undergraduate, Finnell was also a member of the equestrian team. As a Wildcat, she served as a team captain, was a two time letter winner, earned the team's Hunter Seat MVP award, and represented the Wildcats in the 2006 Intercollegiate Horse Show Association National Championship Show Cacchione Cup competition.
