Green Enters NCAA's Top 20 for Digs
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - After securing two victories in the opening Summit League matches against Omaha and South Dakota State, Leah Green has been named the Summit League Defensive Peak Performer of the Week for the second time this season, as confirmed by the league earlier today.
"Leah started our August two-a-day training sessions with an outstanding mindset and aggressive attitude defensively. She is eager to contribute to her teammates in several ways. I have been very pleased with her effort and attention to detail." Head Coach Christi Posey said. "She is demonstrating great pride in being the backbone of our defense. We're grateful that the Summit League has recognized Leah's achievements and I'm sure she would acknowledge her teammates in helping her being named Defensive Peak Performer of the Week."
Showcasing her hustle and skill, Green took on the role of the Roos' primary defensive force in both matches last week, amassing 54 digs. Her efficiency was evident as she equaled her season's best with three service aces against Omaha and added one more against South Dakota State, bringing her total service aces for the week to four.
Green has already surpassed her dig total from last season, needing just 58 sets to reach the same mark that she reached in 92 sets in 2022. Currently, she boasts an average of 5.05 digs per set for the season, solidifying first in the Summit League and earning her the 20th-best rank among Division One players.
The Roos are back on the court this week on Thursday against South Dakota in Vermillion, S.D.
