Jerod Fox will head the Roos' Athletic Communications department after two years as a Grad Assistant
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Athletics has officially announced the hiring of Jerod Fox as Director of Athletic Communications. Fox has spent the past two years with the Roos as a Graduate Assistant in Communications.
"I could not be more thrilled to have the opportunity to remain with Kansas City Athletics, where I've grown and learned as a professional," Fox said. "I would like to thank (Deputy Director of Athletics of External Relations) Curt Jacey and (Director of Athletics) Dr. Brandon Martin for seeing the work that I've put in and the vision I have. I'm excited to help lead the Roos into a bright future."
Last year, Fox guided KC's Athletic Communications department through the tumultuous 2020-21 year, serving as the primary media contact for the men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, volleyball, golf and tennis teams.Â
"Jerod worked tremendously hard and never wavered during a very difficult 2020 pandemic related year," Jacey said. "You know you have the right person when they can successfully navigate those waters."
Fox joined Kansas City Athletics in 2019, serving as the primary contact for the volleyball, women's basketball, golf and tennis teams. He played a crucial role in promoting and advancing the volleyball team as it made its first-ever postseason berth, qualifying for the NIVC, and for the women's basketball team as it won the conference title and qualified for the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history.
A former collegiate tennis player, Fox still has a love for the game. He has previously worked for the United States Tennis Association as a Digital Content Assistant, organizing and writing stories for the Missouri Valley district's monthly newsletter. He also currently volunteers with the Stephanie Waterman Foundation, a non-profit organization which provides tennis opportunities for Kansas City's underserved population.
Fox began his path in athletic communications as a member of Hastings College Media during his undergraduate career. There, he spent time as the Social Media Director and was a familiar voice on the Broncos' basketball, volleyball, football and soccer broadcasts. With HC Media, he also had the opportunity to work six NAIA National Championship tournaments in volleyball and women's basketball. Through that experience, he gained expertise commentating, directing productions and operating camera and replay.
A native of Newton, Kan., Fox received his bachelor's degree in Broadcasting from Hastings College in 2019 before earning a master's in Higher Education Administration from UMKC in 2021.
