Softball, Women's Tennis set for full spring slate
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Athletics has officially announced the schedules for its pair of spring sports, softball and women's tennis. Both teams will play a non-conference schedule along with their first Summit League schedule since 2013.
Softball
The Roos will begin their second year under Head Coach Kerry Shaw with trips to three top-tier Invitationals. The season will start in Cape Girardeau, Mo. at the SEMO Invite from Feb. 19-21, followed by a trip to Lubbock, Tex. for the Red Raider Invite and an appearance in the Oklahoma State Invite in Stillwater, Okla.
Kansas City's home slate will begin on Mar. 23 against Arkansas at the Urban Youth Academy, followed by its Summit opening series against South Dakota State on Mar. 27 and 28. Summit League competition will be played in a three-game format, with a doubleheader on one day and a single game on the next.
A key stretch for the squad will come in mid-April, as the Roos take on Kansas, Wichita State and Missouri in a span of ten days. Kansas City's Senior Weekend will take place against Omaha on May 1 and 2. The team will wrap up regular season play against North Dakota on May 7 and 8, and then will travel to Fargo, N.D. for the Summit League Championships from May 12-15.
Women's Tennis
Following a 2020 season that was cut short due, Kansas City Women's Tennis will look to make up for lost time in Head Coach Kendell Hale's 13th season at the helm. The Roos begin their season at home against Missouri State on Jan. 23, followed by a seven-match road trip that includes meetings with Tulsa, Creighton and Saint Louis.
Kansas City's conference slate will begin at home on Mar. 13 against South Dakota. The Roos will be back on the road for matches at Western Illinois, Bradley and Denver before their longest home stand from Apr. 3-11 with matches scheduled against North Dakota, Wichita State and Oral Roberts.
The Roos will wrap up their regular season on Apr. 17 in Omaha before traveling to Denver, Colo. from Apr. 30-May 1 for the Summit League Championships.
