Department Launches Comprehensive Fueling Program for Student-Athletes
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas City Athletics announced a strategic partnership that makes Ruby Jean's Juicery the Roos Official Juice Provider. This exclusive partnership is the first of its kind for Kansas City Athletics and is the first step in creating a comprehensive fueling program and making a variety of nutritional options available to all student-athletes. Ruby Jean's has three locations in the Kansas City metro area and is founded by Chris Goode.
Phase one of the partnership will begin with the men's and women's basketball teams, student-athletes will have access to sport-performance juices, healthy meals and snacks. Additionally, there will be an educational component as the student-athletes will be taught about topics such as wellness, health and nutrition. The partnership will also include a community-service program targeted at educating local youth on healthy lifestyles and how juice can impact that.
"Our goal is provide a holistic fueling experience for our student-athletes – mind, body, spirit – and proper nutrition and hydration play a key role in that effort," said Director of Athletics Dr. Brandon Martin. "By partnering with Ruby Jean's Juicery, we will be able to provide our student-athletes with the proper fuel their bodies need as we continue to build toward our goal of comprehensive excellence."
The Fueling Program will have the ability to provide student-athletes with "to-go" meals during the week when scheduling conflicts don't allow them ample time to access dining services on campus. This resource will allow Roo student-athletes an option for dining during extremely busy schedules.
"For Ruby Jean's Juicery, the ability to enhance our partnership with the Kansas City Roos falls directly in line with everything we stand for as a brand," said Chris Goode, Ruby Jean's Juicery Founder. "The interest that Kansas City has taken towards investing in the overall well-being of their student-athletes is revolutionary for our city. It shows the desire to not only enhance their athletic capacities today but it also provides the students with very important tools & knowledge that will impact their lives forever. We look forward to a longstanding partnership with the Roos and are grateful for the leadership in Dr. Brandon Martin to show true investment into the students and our city."
"I am very happy about the partnership. The juices taste very good and are even better for our bodies. The guys love them and its helping with more energy and a better level of health for all of us," said Brandon McKissic, a junior men's basketball player and Director of the Student-Athlete Leadership Cabinet (SALC).
"As coaches, we are always looking for ways to enhance our player's performance and nutrition, and recovery is a huge component of that. We are excited to be able to provide such a resource to help them be at their best both on and off the court," said head women's basketball coach Jacie Hoyt.
"I'm incredibly proud of the work Ruby Jean's continues to do in the community," said Kansas City (Mo.) Councilman Eric Bunch "Promoting health and wellness is cause-worthy of our attention. I'm also excited to see UMKC support locally-owned businesses and encourage this kind of collaboration in Kansas City."
