
Ball Nabs Singles Point as Roos Fall to Cowgirls in NCAA Tourney

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC women's tennis team (15-10) fell 4-1 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament to Oklahoma State (20-4) on Friday afternoon at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Okla.
Grace Ball notched the Roos lone point, becoming the first female tennis player in UMKC history to win a match in the NCAA Tournament, when she knocked-off Sami Court, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.
Oklahoma State, meanwhile, picked up points when No. 123 Marina Guinart beat Yana Grechkina, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4 and Katarina Stresnakova won over Melinda Johnson, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3.
The Cowgirls then clinched the match at No. 1 when Aliona Ladutska fell to No. 20 Vladica Babic, 6-2, 6-1.
At No. 2, No. 39 Megan McCray was leading Katie Fries, 6-1, 4-3 and Sofia Blanco was leading Thanushree Vale 6-2, 4-1 at No. 5 when the match was clinched.
In doubles play, OSU picked up the point when No. 14 Babic and Blanco beat Grechkina and Johnson at No. 1, 6-2 and Guinart and Stresnakova won over Ladutska and Ball, 6-2 at No. 2.
Fries and Vale, however, were leading McCray and Shir Hornung, 5-3, when the point was clinched.
