Roos Fall To Zips, Tigers

MERRIAM, Kan. – The UMKC women's tennis team (5-6) dropped its match with Akron (7-6), 5-2, on Saturday afternoon at the Kansas City Racquet Club, while falling at No. 49 Missouri (11-3) on Sunday, 4-0.
In doubles play against the Zips, Aliona Ladutska and Grace Ball picked up a 7-6 win over Luisa Echeverry and Miruna Vasilescu at No. 2. Thanushree Vale and Ioanna Lathouri, meanwhile, fell to Carli Knezevich and Madison Wolfe, 6-4 at No. 3 and Melinda Johnson and Yana Grechkina lost, 7-6, to Rita Pedroso and Anna Uljanov at No. 1 as Akron claimed the doubles point.
Akron then pushed the lead to 3-0 when Johnson fell to Pedroso at No. 2, 6-2, 6-3 and Grechkina lost to Knezevich at No. 3, 7-6, 6-4.
Ladutska put the Roos on the board with 7-6, 6-2 win at No. 1 over Vasilescu and Vale followed with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 4 over Ujanov.
Akron, however, would take the match as Ball fell at No. 5 to Echeverry and at No. 6, Lathouri lost to Wolfe, 6-3, 6-0.
Against the Tigers, Mizzou claimed the doubles point with a 6-0 win by Mackenz Middlebrooks and Ellie Wright at No. 3 over Vale and Lathouri, while at No. 2, Ladutska and Ball went down to Serena Nash and Clare Raley, 6-2. At No. 1, Grechkina and Johnson were trailing Taylor Gruber an Amina Ismail, 4-3, when the match was decided.
In singles play, Ladutska fell at No. 1, 6-2, 6-1 to Nash and at No. 3, Vale lost to Middlebrooks, 6-2, 6-1. The fourth Tiger point came at No. 4, where Grace Ball fell to Marta Oliveira, 6-2, 6-1.
At No. 2, Johnson was up 3-6, 5-0 over Wright when the match was decided.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Friday when they take on Nebraska at 5 p.m. CT in Lincoln, Neb.
