Roos Pull Out WAC Opening Win Over Redhawks, 4-3

(Phoenix, Ariz.) - UMKC women's tennis got a third set singles win from Marina Albert to clinch a 4-3 come-from-behind WAC opening victory for the Roos on Saturday afternoon in Phoenix against SeattleU.

The Roos (5-9, 1-0 WAC) had to battle from behind all day, starting with doubles play when the Redhawks (8-8, 0-1 WAC) took 7-5 wins at both the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. UMKC won the opening match with a 6-3 victory at the No. 3 spot.

In singles play, the Roos tied it up at 1-1 when Linda Ammar Mouhoub tallied a straight set win at No. 5. The Redhawks battled back though, taking a win at No. 6, before the Roos came storming back to take the next two matches for a 3-2 lead. Melinda Johnson and Raquel Argenal each won their matches in straight sets to bring the Roos to the brink of the dual victory.

It came down to the final match, as Seattle won at No. 1 in a third set to knot the match at 3-3, but it was all Roos in the final match at No. 3. Marina Albert took care of business in the third set, winning it 6-2 to clinch the team victory.

UMKC will face UTRGV Sunday to wrap up the WAC opening weekend.
