Women's Tennis Drops a Pair of Matches in Iowa City

(Iowa City, Iowa) - The UMKC women's tennis team fell by 4-0 scores to both Iowa and Illinois State on Saturday in Iowa City, both teams that entered the weekend undefeated.
The Roos (2-5) were a little closer to being healthy this week, with Dimitra Stavrianakou back in the lineup, but they faced some stiff competition with the Hawkeyes and Redbirds coming into the day at 4-0.
The two matches were played to clinch, with Iowa taking the doubles point, then the match with singles wins at the No. 1, 4 and 5 positions, all in straight sets.
In the ISU match, UMKC dropped doubles matches at No. 2 and No. 3, while falling at No. 2, 3 and 6 in singles play. The Redbirds led in the other matches except for Mariam Kurasbediani at No. 4, who won her first set, before having to quit after the match was clinched.
UMKC will return home to face Washburn on Friday, before battling Air Force on Sunday.
