KANSAS CITY, Mo. – All 14 of UMKC women's basketball players got in the scoring column, including four in double-digits, led by junior Kiana Law (Pittsburgh, Pa.) with 19 and backed by a double-double from redshirt sophomore Kristen Moore (Chicago, Ill.) as the Roos coasted to a 111-43 victory over Central Christian on Tuesday night.
“With as much depth as we have, November is hard to fit all of those pieces together,” head coach Marsha Frese said. “We looked at tonight as an opportunity to really solidify some of those roles.”
It was all UMKC (3-3) in the win, as the Roos led for over 39 minutes in the game. Law, Moore, India Johnson (Overland Park, Kan.), and Paige Husa (Fairbury, Neb.) all reached double-figures in scoring for UMKC. Johnson notched 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting, and four assists in 24 minutes of action, and Husa contributed 10 points and five rebounds on the night.
“I thought India was able to use tonight to really get her legs under her,” Frese said. “After being out a year, it is exciting to see her take this next step and what it could mean for her.”
Law's game-high 19 points came primarily in the first half, as she went into the locker room with 15 at the break, shooting 6-for-9 from the field and 3-for-4 from the free throw line. She finished the night 7-for-12 from the floor and 5-for-6 from the charity stripe, while adding six rebounds to her stat line.
The Roos shot 51.1 percent from the field in the game, and outscored the Tigers 70-10 in the paint. UMKC also outrebounded the CCC 59-20, including 27-5 on the offensive glass.
UMKC is back in action on Saturday, Dec. 3, as they head to Abilene Christian for a 2 p.m. CT tilt.
