Volleyball Takes Two On Final Day Of Omaha Classic

In the opening match, junior Sydney Crimmins paced the Kangaroos with a team-high 11 kills and nine digs, while against the Mavericks, classmate Jessica Hendin led a group of five 'Roos with double figure kills at 15 to go along with a career-high 26 digs.
In the days first match, UMKC rolled to the 3-0 victory, taking the first set 25-23. Late in the set, UMKC broke a 22-22 tie by scoring three of the final four points, including two on kills from Hendin, while taking the second set 25-22 and erasing a 5-0 deficit in the process.
The 'Roos then secured their first win of season with a 25-16 third set victory, capped by a kill from Crimmins.
In the tournament's final contest, UMKC quickly fell behind to Omaha with a 25-17 loss in the first set, but the Kangaroos evened the match at one set apiece heading into the intermission using an 8-0 run early in the second set to go ahead 11-5. Omaha would close the gap to one on two separate occasions, but sophomore Taylor Buhrow scored the set's final point on a kill with an assist from Kaylyn Brandt.
Omaha reclaimed the lead with a 25-21 third set win, but the 'Roos forced a fifth set with a 25-21 win in set four with Crimmins notching an ace and a kill for the set's final two points.
In the deciding set, UMKC fell behind 5-3 before using an 8-2 run to go ahead 11-7 midway through the set. Omaha would close the margin to three twice more, but junior Skyler Muff ended the match for the 'Roos with the final kill of the day.
In the final match, Crimmins (10 kills, 12 digs), Buhrow (10 kills), Muff (11 kills) and Emma Hagedorn (11 kills) joined Hendin with 10+ kills, while Taryn Miller chipped in 22 digs and Nicole Wemhoff registered her first double-double of the year with 22 assists and 16 digs.
On the weekend, Hendin and Hagedorn each garnered all-tournament honors.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action next weekend when they head to Brookings, S.D., for the Jackrabbit Invitational hosted by former Summit League foe South Dakota State on Sep. 5-6.
