The Game
The Kansas City women's basketball team (2-7) returns for its final home game before Christmas when it welcomes in Texas Southern (3-5) to Kansas City on Dec. 15. The 'Roos and the Tigers are slated for a 1 p.m. tip on Sunday at the Swinney Recreation Center.
The Opponent
Texas Southern enters the contest with a 3-5 record overall, picking up wins over Tulsa, Houston Baptist and McNeese State, while falling to Kansas in their last outing. The Tigers enter the contest averaging 71.0 points, led by Jazzmin Parker's 27.9 ppg, while Brianna Sidney is also in double figures at 12.6 ppg. On the glass, Morgan Simmons is collecting 8.3 rpg and chipping in 8.8 ppg, while Alexus Johnson is adding 8.8 ppg and 6.3 rpg.

This will be the second meeting between the 'Roos and TSU, with the Tigers leading 2-0. Last season, Texas Southern won 64-53 in Houston.

The Coaches
Renowned for her top-notch recruiting classes, Marsha Frese enters her second season as head women's basketball coach at UMKC. Named as the Kangaroo head coach on April 25, 2012, Frese brings 16 seasons of experience as a Division-I player and coach to the UMKC campus.
Johnetta Hayes-Perry was named the next head women's basketball coach at Texas Southern on April 29, 2013 after serving the program in the capacity of associate head coach during the 2012-13 season. Hayes-Perry arrived to Texas Southern after a two year stint at UNC-Wilmington, where she spent two seasons as an assistant coach on former TSU head women's basketball coach Cynthia Cooper-Dykes' staff.
The Venue
The home of UMKC Athletics, the Swinney Recreation Center houses the Kangaroo administration, coaches and student-athletes. The Dutton Brookfield Strength and Conditioning Center, the Victor F. Swyden Athletics Training Facility and the Student-Athlete Support Services Office also are located in the facility.
Last Time Out
Four 'Roos scored in double figures, led by freshman Taylor Strickland's career-high 13, as the Kansas City women's basketball team (2-7) fell 75-66 on Saturday afternoon to MAC foe Eastern Michigan.
Strickland finished 5-of-6 from the field with five rebounds, with Kelsey Barnwell adding 12 points and career-highs of seven rebounds and five assists.
Eilise O'Connor, meanwhile, added 12 points, four rebounds and four assists and freshman Grace Mitchell was the final 'Roo in double figures, scoring 10 points and grabbing four rebounds, while Lauren Dudding hit 3-of-4 from beyond the arc for nine points against the Eagles (6-0). On the glass, Kansas City out-rebounded EMU 50-40, while limiting the Eagles to just one three-point field goal in the second half.
