The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead thanks to a clean sweep of the doubles matches, despite a closely played contest at No. 3 by UMKC's Maddie Schulte and Gabby Pintos (8-6).
In singles play, Hailey Martin controlled her No. 3 match against UMKC's Amelie Amsallem by 6-2, 6-1 scores to make it 2-0, folled by a closely played contest at No. 1 between ORU's Iryna Khatsko and the Kangaroos' Eva Dalvai (6-1, 3-6, 6-0). The clincher came at No. 4 when Kristin Gray knocked off Schulte (6-4, 7-6 (7-5)).
UMKC plays later Friday night against South Dakota State with an approximate start time of 6:00 p.m. Central, depending on weather conditions.
