Kansas City, Mo. -- UMKC head women's basketball coach Candace Whitaker announced today the signing of Emile Blakesley, who plans to continue her education and basketball career with the UMKC women's basketball program next season. The Kangaroos received a National Letter of Intent from Blakesley out of Hutchinson Community College (HCC).
"Emile is a great fit for our program, as she is a solid guard that makes sound decisions," said Whitaker. "She is a good shooter and we just love her toughness. Emile is a well-rounded young woman and comes from well coached programs with winning traditions."
Blakesley played for HCC for one season, transferring from Johnson County Community College. In her year with the Lady Dragons, Blakesley helped lead her squad to the 2011 Jayhawk West Championships. The Lady Dragons were 30-3 this season and advanced all the way to the Region VI championship game.
The Hutchinson, Kan., native was the fourth leading scorer on the squad, averaging 9.4 points per game, while shooting a team-high 39.1 percent from the three-point line.
Blakesley ranks third on the Lady Dragons single season performance list in steals and fourth on the career performance list in three-pointers.
During her freshman season at JCCC, Blakesley was a part of the Region VI-Division II championship team that advanced all the way to the NJCAA Women's Division II National Tournament.
Blakesley joins Lexi Hardieck and Sydney Crimmins who signed with the Kangaroos back in November.
