UMKC To Put A New Athletics Logo To A Vote

Kansas City, Mo. -- The UMKC Athletics Department will have a new logo featuring the Kangaroo beginning in the fall of 2008, it was announced today by Director of Athletics Tim Hall.
“In an effort to create a comprehensive, well-rounded athletics program, we need to have a more consistent identity, which is something that hasn't been visible in the past,” said Hall. “We felt it was important to create a new logo that will foster a stronger identity with Kangaroo fans and the Kansas City community.”
In January, the UMKC Athletics Department began working on a logo re-design with Bernstein-Rein, a locally-owned Kansas City company. The graphic designers were given free reign with the logo design with the stipulation of keeping the Kangaroo in the logo and incorporating the Blue and Gold school colors.
Athletic Department and University administrators then narrowed the logo down to two “finalists” for consideration to be the new look of Kangaroo Athletics.
The UMKC Athletics Department will put the logos to a vote from Monday, April 21 through Friday, April 25. The logo that receives the MOST VOTES will be the new look for the department. Voting will be accessible 24 hours a day at the UMKC website - www.umkckangaroos.com.
“We felt it was important to get key constituents involved in the voting process from students to faculty/staff to community members,” said Hall. “We're excited that these groups will have their hand in choosing the next logo for the Athletics Department, so they're able to embrace the Kangaroos as we move this program forward.”
In person stations will also be set up every day of the week around campus at the following sites:
- Monday - Lower level of the University Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Tuesday - Medical School Building at Hospital Hill from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Wednesday - Lower level of the University Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Thursday - Health Sciences Building at Hospital Hill from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Friday - Lower level of the University Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Voting is open to all UMKC students, faculty/staff and the entire Kansas City community. The winning logo will then be announced on Friday, May 2.
Fans are encouraged to vote early to be a part in building a new UMKC Athletics identity!
