Roberto Quintanilla is in his second season as an assistant coach for the UMKC men's and women's tennis programs.
Quintanilla helped lead the 'Roos to the 2009 Summit League Tournament title, as the men's squad upset top-seeded Oral Roberts to advance to the NCAA Tournament. UMKC tied a school record as it posted a 14-7 overall record in 2009, and three players earned all-league recognition, which included Bret Berryman being named The Summit League Newcomer of the Year.
Quintanilla joined the coaching staff after playing for the Kangaroos
from 2002-06. During his time on the court, Quintanilla helped UMKC make three Mid-Con Championship appearances during his four-year
career and to a pair of third place finishes (2003 and 2005). He
closed out his playing career with a 14-34 record at the No. 4-6
singles positions and a 15-31 record at the No. 3 doubles line.
The Santa Cruz, Bolivia, native also excelled in the classroom during
his time at UMKC, as he was named to the Mid-Con Winter/Spring Academic
all-Conference team in both 2004 and 2006.
With the 'Roos, Quintanilla will have the opportunity to coach his
younger brother Erwin, who is senior on the UMKC men's team.
