Kansas City Athletics prides itself on being a close-knit department that will allow students to gain hands-on leadership skills in various aspects of athletic administration and sports management.
Our Student Manager Positions are for undergraduate UMKC Students who want to play an integral role in the Kansas City Athletic Department in exchange for partial and full tuition scholarships. The Kansas City Athletics Internships are for any student looking to gain valuable experience with the desire to explore a career in collegiate athletics. Internships are on a volunteer and class credit basis (approved by your institution’s undergraduate or graduate program).

Sports Information Student Manager (UNDERGRADUATE UMKC STUDENTS ONLY)
Positions Available
2 position available per semester
Compensation
A scholarship for 14 credit hours of undergraduate, in-state tuition is available for this position ($1,250 and $5,000) with the expectation to work 10-20 hours a week including game days, evenings and weekends required. Only undergraduate students qualify for this position due to tuition restrictions.

Position Description
- Serve as primary media contact for one Kansas City Athletics team
- Assist in writing/editing of postgame/event recap stories
- Serving a variety of roles on game day, including in-game social media content
- Compile compelling statistical trends from Kansas City Athletics teams each week
- Manage record books and keep tabs on records broken throughout the year
- Correspond with the NCAA to find where Kansas City ranks in certain categories in the nation
- Assist with creation of game notes for home and away events
- Create roster cards for home games
- Run statistic reports for coaches
- Occasionally assist with in-game statistics

Marketing Student Manager (UNDERGRADUATE UMKC STUDENTS ONLY)

Position Description
- Assisting in leading and guiding initiatives on campus marketing and partnership plans, grassroots table marketing on campus events and in the KC community
- Works closely with the Marketing Manager in preparation of scheduling, planning and executing the marketing strategy during game days, special events, through social media and partnerships.
- Crafts creative for increasing the brand affinity through social media, game days and driving sales on kcroos.store merchandise online and in person at events.
- Prepares fulfillment documentation of images, videos and materials of partnerships, theme events, KC Athletics brand
- Corresponds, organizes and secures groups, organizations, performances, and special guests for games or KC Athletics special events
- Serves a variety of roles on game day and is willing to help in all aspects of leading in-game promotions/timeouts with fans, fan engagement elements, game operations crew, ticket operations and involved with supporting the merchandise store.
- Collaborates with team and Marketing Director on ideas for halftime / in game entertainment games
- Assists and liaisons the KC Roo mascot and KC Dance Team at events and home games
- Updates and connects with the Student-Athlete Leadership Cabinet often for engagement and building plan for content to support KC Student-Athletes goals and Roo pride
- Assists and works closely with the Marketing Manager on important tasks day to day ahead of events and other items as assigned

Position Description
- Provide entertainment as mascot KC Roo during home games, athletic events, campus events, and within the community
- During all events you will have to interact with fans and pose for photo opportunities, must like being around people
- KC Roo requires highly enthusiastic people who like to entertain and engage with others
- Use your own personality to create skits and routines that fit the KC Roo persona and the specific sport/event to enhance the experience for our fans
- Preserve the identity of KC Roo by remaining anonymous to all fans, including appropriate body language and mannerisms, no speaking while in costume, and representing Kansas City Athletics mission with high energy.
- Must be physically fit (not needed to be an expert athlete/in shape), able to handle on a regular basis medium cardio level of exercise
- Assist in managing, communicating and organizing KC Roo at events and kid experiences
- Part of the marketing team, will complete hours doing marketing initiatives as a student manager, not in suit to gain further experience as part of the KC Athletic department

- Requirement to be at nearly all men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, and softball games throughout the 2021-22 academic year
- Primary focus on in-game operations, serving as the field crew/court crew that shag balls, monitor playing surfaces during timeouts, and serve as the liaison to officials during the game
- Supervision and assistance of ball kids
- Assist the game day operations team in set-up and tear-down of athletic events
