Jamar Brown leads KC in points, rebounds and steals, grabbing a Second Team All-Summit accolade
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Kansas City Men's Basketball's Jamar Brown has been a reliable option night in and night out for the Roos, ranking among the best in the Summit League in nearly every statistical category. Due to his invaluable leadership for the Roos throughout the season, he has been named Second Team All-Summit League, his second All-League honor in as many years.
Brown leads the Roos' scoring and rebounding efforts, averaging 16.4 points and 7.6 boards per game. He is one of the best offensive rebounders in the nation, averaging 3.25 per contest and ranking 26th in the NCAA. He has also displayed himself as one of the most consistent free throw shooters in the NCAA, knocking down 90.7% of his attempts to rank seventh in the nation.
Outside of offensive rebounds and free throw percentage, Brown also ranks top-10 in the Summit in double-doubles, field goal percentage, minutes per game, points per game, defensive rebounds per game, total rebounds per game, steals per game and three-point makes per game. He has seen marked improvement from his junior year, increasing his scoring average by 1.5, his rebounding average by 1.1 and both his three-point and free throw percentages by seven points.
Since the start of Summit League play, Brown has played a full 40 minutes in four games and gone 35-plus minutes in 12 contests. He has scored in double-digits in 14-of-16 games, notching 20-plus four times since the start of February. On his Kansas City career, he has gone for double-digit scoring 51 times, the 10th-most in program history.
Brown was named the Summit League Peak Performer of the Week on Feb. 10, averaging 27.5 points, 8.5 rebound and 2.5 steals per game across a pair of games. Just a day later, he earned an Oscar Robertson USBWA National Player of the Week nod.Â
Following his First Team All-League selection last year, he becomes the fifth player in program history to earn multiple honors on the First-or-Second All-League teams. He is the first to do so since Martez Harrison in 2014-15 and 2015-16.Â
The Roos open up postseason play in the Opening Round of the Summit League Championship on Wednesday, tipping off at 7 p.m. against ninth-seeded Oral Roberts. A win against the Golden Eagles will give the Roos a shot at #1 Omaha on Thursday evening.
